connections, provide the union manufacturer, figure number, nominal size and existing seal dimensions. Dimensional tolerances must match the specified part,

rather than assuming that every seal with the same nominal connection size is interchangeable. Identify whether the assembly uses

an unreinforced rubber ring, a brass back-up ring or a stainless steel back-up ring. Include the metal grade and ring geometry where the drawing

specifies them. Inspect the mating surfaces and confirm installation requirements before selecting the replacement; a new seal alone does not establish the condition of the

complete union or its approved working-pressure rating.

Specify the rubber seal and metal back-up ring as one matched configuration. Send a drawing or sample identifying the ring position, inner and outer diameters, thickness and seal cross-section. A brass ring and a stainless steel ring should not be substituted solely because both fit the same nominal union size; confirm the approved material and dimensions for that connection.

For a quotation, include the union figure, manufacturer or part number, nominal size, seal compound, back-up ring material and quantity. State whether the metal ring is supplied separately or as part of the seal assembly. Include fluid composition, pressure cycles and temperature limits, and identify any sour-service qualification requirements.
