Hammer union lip seals for pipe connections fit the seal recess inside the union hardware and are compressed when the mating connection is assembled. For a replacement lip-type seal, identify the union manufacturer, figure number and seal profile before selecting the part. Nominal line size alone does not establish interchangeability with another union or with a rotary shaft oil seal.

For manifold and hose-to-pipe connections, inspect the lip contact surface, backing arrangement and mating recess dimensions together. Figure 602, 1002, 1502, 2002 and 2202 references must be checked against the specific equipment drawing; they are not one universal seal configuration. Select NBR or HNBR and Shore A hardness for the fluid and operating temperature. Pressure limits are determined by the complete rated union assembly and service conditions, rather than by a rubber seal alone.
