Application:

NBR nitrile hammer union seal rings are replacement sealing elements for compatible hose and pipe union connections used in oil-drilling equipment. Specify the nominal connection size, union figure and original seal drawing so that each ring matches its intended groove.

Product Description

A hammer union comprises of a thread end, a nut end and a hammer nut which, when cinched up, compresses a composite seal assembly thereby preventing leakage. The seal assembly comprises a metal insert of a size to pass into the seal groove of conventional hammer unions and a small seal acting between the insert, the thread end and the nut end. The small seal is conveniently an O-ring or a Hammer Union Seal (Lip Seal) and is of a size that is compressed when the seal assembly is inserted into the thread end of the hammer union.

The hammer union is the complete metal connection; the seal ring is its replaceable sealing element. Figure references including 602, 1002, 1502, 2002 and 2202 require their own manufacturer drawing and groove confirmation. Seal rings must not be assumed interchangeable between figures.

Material:

Select one material grade for the 2 inch lip-seal drawing. NBR, nitrile and Buna-N refer to the same polymer family. HNBR is also described as HSN in some enquiries. FKM is a separate elastomer family, and PTFE is a separate thermoplastic material.

For Figure 1502 replacement enquiries, match the seal profile and any brass or stainless steel support ring to the original connection drawing. Working pressure and proof-test requirements belong to the complete union assembly; confirm the manufacturer rating, service conditions and applicable test records. A seal material or nominal size alone does not establish a pressure rating.

2 Inch Union Lip Seal Materials: Resolve Polymer Names Before Ordering

A 2 inch nominal connection enquiry should identify the union figure, original seal part number and lip-section drawing. Record the inner and outer diameters, height, tolerances and any brass or stainless support ring. Nominal connection size does not determine finished seal dimensions.

Use one agreed polymer designation and compound grade on each order line. Material aliases help identify the family but do not establish an equivalent formulation. Specify hardness scale and target for an elastomer; a PTFE option requires separate material and construction review rather than inheriting rubber hardness or service limits.

Provide the fluid formulation, additives, operating temperature and pressure cycle when comparing NBR, HNBR and FKM options. Any sour-gas or decompression requirement needs compound-specific qualification. Confirm complete union ratings independently of the replacement seal selection.
