A hammer union comprises of a thread end, a nut end and a hammer nut which, when cinched up, compresses a composite seal assembly thereby preventing leakage. The seal assembly comprises a metal insert of a size to pass into the seal groove of conventional hammer unions and a small seal acting between the insert, the thread end and the nut end. The small seal is conveniently an O-ring or a Hammer Union Seal (Lip Seal) and is of a size that is compressed when the seal assembly is inserted into the thread end of the hammer union.

The hammer union is the complete metal connection; the seal ring is its replaceable sealing element. Figure references including 602, 1002, 1502, 2002 and 2202 require their own manufacturer drawing and groove confirmation. Seal rings must not be assumed interchangeable between figures.

Available size : 1, 2, 3 and 4 inch nominal connection enquiries; 5 inch and custom-size enquiries require separate drawing confirmation.

Material: Specify NBR, HNBR or FKM as a separate elastomer compound choice for each lip-seal drawing. PTFE is a separate thermoplastic option. Confirm the exact grade, hardness scale and target for the selected material.

Application: Hammer union lip seals are replacement elements for compatible oilfield hose and pipe union grooves. Match the lip section and any support ring to the original drawing. Fluid compatibility and connection performance require review of the selected compound and complete hardware.

Multi-Size Hammer Union Lip Seals: Match the Lip Section for Every Size

A multi-size lip-seal order should identify the union figure and manufacturer reference for each nominal connection size. Provide the lip section, overall height, inner and outer diameters and tolerances from the original drawing. Do not scale a smaller seal to define another size.

Specify plain elastomer or supported construction, including the metal ring material where required. Compare sample dimensions and groove fit against the approved drawing. Similar diameter or color does not establish the same lip geometry or interchangeable fit.

Service life depends on fluid exposure, temperature, pressure cycling, mating-surface condition and the selected compound. Provide these conditions with the enquiry and agree inspection criteria for the intended application. A general durability description does not replace the operating limits of the complete union assembly.
