The H2S Resistant FKM Hammer Union Seals are high performance sealing solutions specifically engineered for the rigorous demands of sour gas service and aggressive oilfield environments. Hammer unions are critical for connecting flowline iron and manifolds, and the integrity of these connections depends entirely on the seal. Our FKM lip seals are designed to provide a leak proof barrier in high pressure systems, particularly where Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) and corrosive chemicals are present. These seals are precision molded to fit industry standard Figures including 602, 1002, and 1502, ensuring safety and reliability during drilling, fracturing, and well stimulation operations.

Material Characteristics
We offer these seals in specialized elastomer grades to match your specific wellbore conditions:
FKM (Fluorocarbon): This is the premier material for sour gas service. It provides exceptional resistance to H2S, crude oil, and many aggressive chemicals. FKM remains stable at extreme temperatures where other rubbers would fail, offering superior long term sealing performance in chemically hostile environments.
NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber): Used primarily for standard oil and water applications. It is cost effective and offers good abrasion resistance but is not suitable for high temperature or sour gas environments.
HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber): A tougher alternative to standard Nitrile. It offers improved heat resistance and mechanical strength. While it can handle moderate H2S concentrations, it is often selected for its superior resistance to abrasion and high pressure extrusion.
Material Comparison: FKM vs. NBR vs. HNBR
Standard Nitrile (NBR) is excellent for general purpose water or oil transfer but begins to degrade rapidly once temperatures exceed 120C or when sour gas is introduced.
Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR) provides a significant upgrade in durability and mechanical strength. It is highly resistant to tearing and abrasion, making it ideal for flowlines carrying sand or debris. However, its chemical limit is reached in high concentration sour gas environments.
Fluorocarbon (FKM) is the gold standard for sour gas. While it has lower mechanical tear strength than HNBR, its chemical resilience to Hydrogen Sulfide and extreme heat makes it the only safe choice for high concentration H2S wells. FKM does not undergo the souring or embrittlement common in NBR materials.

FAQ
Q1: Why is FKM required for sour gas service?
A1: Sour gas contains Hydrogen Sulfide which chemically attacks standard rubber, leading to hardening and cracking. FKM is chemically inert to H2S, allowing the seal to maintain its elasticity and pressure integrity even after prolonged exposure.
Q2: How does a pressure energized lip seal work?
A2: The lip design is engineered so that as internal flow pressure increases, the lip is pushed more firmly against the metal sealing surface of the union. This allows the seal to become tighter as the pressure rises.
Q3: Can these seals be used with Figure 1502 connections?
A3: Yes, our seals are manufactured to industry standard dimensions for Figure 1502, which is commonly used for high pressure 15,000 PSI service. We recommend FKM with a metal backup ring for these extreme conditions.
Q4: Are these seals compatible with acidizing fluids?
A4: FKM seals offer excellent resistance to many acids used in well stimulation. However, for extremely aggressive acid blends, always verify the concentration and temperature with our technical specifications. Q6: How should I store these seals to prevent aging? A6: Seals should be stored in a cool, dry, and dark environment. Exposure to direct sunlight or ozone from electric motors can cause elastomers to age prematurely. Proper storage ensures a shelf life of up to 15 to 20 years for FKM.
