HNBR and NBR Packer Cup Parts — Fluid and Temperature Specification

Packer cup design families:

Wire packer cups: Wire-reinforced cups require identification of the reinforcement and insert design, sealing lip orientation and mandrel fit. Provide the actual casing or tubing internal diameter and component drawing for the selected tool arrangement.

Heavy-duty packer cups: Heavy-duty designs require a specified reinforcement and assembly configuration. Include washing, movement and differential-pressure requirements for review; performance cannot be inferred from the construction label alone.

All-rubber packer cups: All-rubber designs are reviewed separately from wire-reinforced cups. Confirm the approved lip geometry, any insert and material specification before selecting an HNBR or NBR replacement.

Threaded packer cups: Threaded versions require insert dimensions and a defined thread connection. Steam, cleaning or washing exposure needs the appropriate compound and complete assembly qualification.

Nominal tubing and casing references from 1-1/4 inch through 7 inch require confirmation of actual internal diameter, casing weight and tool geometry. Custom designs are reviewed against the component drawing.

Features of the rubber oil packer cups:

1) Specify normal and peak temperature with the actual fluid composition.

2) Include exposure duration, pressure cycling and any decompression requirements.

3) Confirm nominal 3.5, 4.5 or 5.5 inch references against actual casing or tubing internal diameter.

4) A 150°C (302°F) test condition requires compound and assembly test records.

5) Agree cycle count, hold duration and acceptance criteria before testing.

6) Custom large-size cups require drawing and tooling confirmation.

HNBR and NBR packer cup parts are selected by the exact compound and tool design. Provide oil or condensate composition, gas constituents and any cleaning chemicals alongside temperature and pressure conditions. A polymer family name alone does not establish the operating envelope.

Confirm wire reinforcement, insert construction or an all-rubber design from the approved drawing. These are distinct configurations and are not automatically interchangeable.

The cup is a replacement sealing component in its specified tool assembly. It does not establish drillability or zonal-isolation performance on its own. Match mandrel dimensions, lip orientation and pressure direction to the tool requirements, then review compound-specific fluid compatibility and required tests.

How should HNBR or NBR packer cups be specified?

Identify the tool model, cup part number and drawing dimensions. Include bore, lip diameter, height, reinforcement details and the casing or tubing internal diameter.

State the required compound, hardness and tolerance, then provide fluid constituents, temperature range and differential pressure. Include pressure cycles and decompression conditions where applicable.

Confirm the required inspection reports and complete assembly test procedure before approving a material substitution. Agree sample fit, quantity, marking and packaging for the replacement order.
